“I’m drawn to works which can be wealthy in symbolism and now have a powerful factor of storytelling,” says Rithika Service provider. “I really like seeing the artist’s hand within the work—I’ve an enormous appreciation for small particulars and works that draw from a large number of references—literary, legendary, and visible.”
The Mumbai-born artist manifests these identical qualities in her follow, creating works that expertly translate ideas and themes by means of her personal idiosyncratic allusions. Starting with hours of examine, analysis, and studying on an eclectic array of matters, Service provider tends to hone in on a picture that she sketches onto sheets of paper, typically folded into beneficiant rectangles or triangles. She then paints in gouache and refined, muted washes of watercolor, layering translucent pigments atop inked renderings of landscapes, legendary hybrid creatures, and patterns of foliage.
Whereas Service provider’s influences are broad—they vary from the precise like Seventeenth-century botanical drawings, Kalamkari prints, Mughal work, and Kalighat folks artwork to the final like spiritual iconography and narrative tapestries—they emerge as a definite visible lexicon. The artist usually gravitates towards symbols that transcend cultural or geographical boundaries, selecting to include human anatomy, celestial objects, and botanical parts. Though common, these photos are married to language in Service provider’s thoughts and in service of a person narrative. “I even have a pocket book through which I make a lot of written notes and diagrams, however I virtually by no means make sketches or research of issues.
